Today I had the honor to go to school with Stacey! There’s only one word to describe being in her classroom — WOW! She is an amazing teacher, which we know, but to see it in person was incredible. I could make a list of all the remarkable things I noticed, but the post would be three feet long. Instead, I’ll narrow it down to the one thing that I believe makes everything else Stacey does in her classroom possible.
She is a master at establishing routines and procedures.
The feeling of security and respect was evident among the classroom community from the moment the students walked through the door, to the final handshakes of the day, followed by, “Good afternoon, Ms. Shubitz.” Then a handshake for me, eye contact, and “Good afternoon, Mrs. Ayres.”
Not only were the routines and procedures well established, but Stacey also built in time for students to breathe as we moved from one activity to the next. Her natural charm permeated the classroom and her students are fortunate to live in her classroom. And I was fortunate to experience for one day.

I love the essential point that she creates a calm, orderly classroom. I think that’s essential to making kids feel welcome and nurturued, that they’re entering a safe (and great!) place when they walk through the door.
That’s the idea behind a great classroom management plan, Wolf Pack Classroom Management Plan. It’s written by a teacher for teachers, helping them with comforting classroom and nurturing strategies. When kids relax and have fun, they learn better!

Hey, nice to see you two together in one classroom. There’s a Slice or a Memoir Monday here, somewhere.

I agree! As a teacher who has also been fortunate enough to visit your classroom….. and your school, I agree the classroom shines a very special light. I wish you all the best as you move into a new endeavor, and know that I’ll be reading that book you’ll be writing

How kind Ruth!
I, too, was impressed when they came up and said good-bye to you at the end of the day. They did the same thing when my parents were there. I never told them to do it… they just did it on their own. They’re really fantastic kids! I’m really going to miss them!
