Living Life Twice, a blog written by Alan J. Wright who lives in Australia, has a fantastic post entitled “Writing About Issues -Big and Small.” Here’s an excerpt from his post:
Students were asked to read an article that attracted their interest. Following this, they were asked to identify the issue, and then identify what their personal stand was with regard to the issue. The next step was to talk to at least three of their classmates regarding their respective issues. They were encouraged to ask questions of each other and to take notes as they went about their discussions.

I am immensely proud of the work these three young teachers have done with their students around expository writing (Issues -big and small). The students in these classes are gaining a broader perspective of the world, and at the same time further developing their writing skills. Their often passionate views are a revelation! Thank you Stacey for drawing attention to this important role that writing plays in asisting students to devleop world knowledge.
