Letters of Hire

I’m a big advocate of letter writing. It is, perhaps, my favorite genre. There’s something about holding a personalized letter in one’s hand that feels special.

A few years ago, Instructor published a list of classroom jobs that were a bit out-of-the-box. This year marks the third year I’ve been using more sophisticated job titles.

Instead of just posting the jobs on a list, I decided to provide each student with a letter of hire informing them of the position they received (They had to fill out job applications.) and reminding them of their responsibilities. These letters of hire will be on each student’s desk when they arrive at school tomorrow morning.

Here’s a peek at what the letters look like:

  1. Hi Stacey,
I love this idea! I noticed that in one of your letters, you talked about word study bags. Can you tell me more about these? I love getting new ideas for word study too!
    Thanks!
