Waking up before the alarm, smiling, and easily getting out of bed. This is the first indicator of summer. Taking the time to make breakfast, sitting at the table to enjoy a conversation with a toddler and preschooler. This is the second indicator of summer. Taking our oldest to kindergarten; another indicator of summer.
The feeling of stillness and expectation and peace washes over me. Knowing I can focus simply on becoming a family. Looking forward to the summer days; swimming and zoos and biking and playing ball and grilling and long talks on the deck after bedtime. These things are consuming my thoughts as I drive home from kindergarten drop off.

Summer was invented for family time. I am convinced of it!

What a way to bond with your new family unit, Ruth. Perfect timing. For me, it’s ironic that once I got into the retirement rhythm, I found myself moving in the opposite direction.
July is one of the busiest teaching months of the year for me. Our writing project’s summer institute. Works out great. We can vacation off season.
Anyway, glad to feel your excitement.

I just went a spent the afternoon in a friend’s kinder modeling a writing lesson. The kids are so excited for the ending of school. The teachers are too! They are writing and writing and writing up a storm. Some of the kids are writing 5-6 sentences are topic. These kids started with few letters and sounds. How they have grown! http://www.debrennersmith.com
