Card-Writing Challenge

No, I’m not proposing (yet another) challenge for you to do on your blog (to be linked here w/good ol’ Mr. Linky!). However, I’m proposing that you challenge yourself to send someone a hand-written message this week.

My birthday is this-coming Friday. So, when I saw a pink envelope in the mail from my Mom, I was unsure about what it was since she gave me my birthday present and card when I saw my parents in NYC on Mother’s Day. When I opened it up, I found the card pictured above from my Mom. Upon opening it, I found that it didn’t have anything to do with my birthday. Instead it was a card that started out, “To the best Teacher Gal I know… You are my hero!” Of course, at that, my eyes welled up with tears. One paragraph later, I had tears running down my cheeks. The contents of the (rest of) card are too personal to share in this forum, but let’s just say it was the best birthday gift I could’ve asked for… better than any gift card to Ann Taylor could ever be.

So, I challenge you to send a hand-written card to the hero or heroin in your life. Perhaps it’s a person who you e-mail frequently or perhaps it’s someone you talk to everyday. Or maybe it’s someone you work with that you appreciate, but take for granted. Let that person know, today, how much s/he matters to you. Don’t worry about editing it… spelling and grammar won’t matter. What *will* matter are the sentiments that you convey and, if they are from the heart, the recipient will not care if there’s a dangling participle, or two, in your note.
