This was the first time in four years that I ever put together a readers’ and listeners’ responsibilities list for a Publishing Party. However, I think it helped my students get focused on what their job was at this Publishing Party, for which all of the writing was done OUTSIDE of Writing Workshop during our Science Writing Time.
I’m thinking a list like this might be good to do any time there’s a new format for a Publishing Party going-forward.

I think we forget to TEACH the listening and sharing skills kids need. It’s not like they all get a lot of practice in this anymore…I believe this is due largely to the absence of the dinner table. Good for you for posting the guidelines. I hope it went well.

I love this format for the chart. I have several similar ones, including what to do during independent reading, and what to do during author’s chair. I teach grades 3 and 4 and they seem to need lots of reminders!
