Narrative Feedback to a Student
Originally uploaded by teachergal
When we returned from Winter Recess I had my students complete self-evaluations of their Writer’s Notebooks. (They do this in the middle and at the end of the year. This idea was inspired by Aimee Buckner’s Book on Writer’s Notebooks.) Each and every student receives a letter back from me with a compliment and a teaching point (and sometimes a bit more).
The student who I just finished writing back to is receiving some assistance from me for writing more non-narrative entries that show evidence of deeper thinking.
Today’s definitely a great day to catch-up on these… just four more to go!

I love how you take the time to write letters to your students! I think feedback is so vital to growth. I can’t wait to be back in my own classroom again so that I can more effectively use all of the ideas I am getting.
