Here’s what the entire wedding toast looked like (for those of you that emailed and asked me to post it):
MY PART:
You’ve come from as near as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. From five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Long Island, and Upstate New York. You’ve driven here from Maryland and Washington, DC. You’ve come from our new home state of Rhode Island and from other places in New England. You’ve flown from Florida, Texas, Colorado, and California. You have crossed oceans and have joined us from as far away as Israel. We are touched that each and every one of you has come from near and far to celebrate the beginning of our married lives.
Marc and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank each other’s families this afternoon.
Linda and Carl: You graciously welcomed me into your lives a little over three years ago. You never treated me like “Marc’s Girlfriend,” but rather like a part of the family. Both of you have always made me feel welcome in your home. For instance, there’s always a half-gallon of chocolate milk for my sweet tooth in the fridge whenever I arrive. You always let me spread my students’ papers all over the kitchen table without even raising an eyebrow. Finally, you’ve also been kind enough to allow me to use your computer, even after I set-off the alarm system at 6:30 on a Sunday morning when you had planned on sleeping-in (sorry about that).
Over the past three years, you’ve both supported me in the happy times, like my graduation from Columbia and my students’ book signing at the Hue-Man Bookstore. You’ve also helped me through the challenging times, such as the recent death of my grandmother and my neck surgery. This makes me realize that I am fortunate to have both of you in my life.
Adam: You, too, have welcomed me into your family. I’m exceedingly happy to have you as my brother-in-law now, though you feel like more of a brother to me. I enjoy spending time with you and miss living in New York since we don’t get to see you as often anymore. I hope the miles between us closes in the near future so that we can be a regular part of each other’s lives.
Linda, Carl, and Adam: Thank you for sharing your wonderful son and brother with me. I am thrilled to have married Marc today and to have you as my family.
MARC’S PART:
Gerald and Marcia : As I have gotten to know Stacey so well, I feel I have grown closer with both of you. Whether it was stitching a turkey together at Thanksgiving with Gerald or going through Stacey’s baby pictures with Marcia I enjoy spending time with both of you. Also, thank you for all your help during Stacey’s move to Providence. If it wasn’t for both of you Stacey and I would likely still be unpacking boxes.
As Stacey and I have prepared for this wedding I feel so fortunate to have not just the support of my family, but to also have your guidance. Thank you for accompanying us on all of the wedding appointments we have had, witnessing our marriage license at Summit Town Hall, and working with my parents to plan such a beautiful wedding for us. You have brought up such a beautiful and caring woman. I am so happy to have Stacey as my wife and to officially call you my family.
