BE INSPIRED

In “I Hate Poodles,” Amy Maloof of Blue Jean Amy uses a blunt, unexpected opinion to reveal family dynamics. When her cousin suddenly blurts out a comment about a passing dog, Amy shows how one honest remark can connect the past and present, bringing back the open, relaxed feeling of her childhood. This story reminds us that you don’t always need a big event to show character; sometimes, a simple moment of honesty is enough. To write like Amy, pay attention to the small, random things people say. Use a specific or quirky opinion as your focus, then think about how that honesty compares to your own filters or teaching style.
