Slice of Life Story Challenge

Day 3 of the March SOLSC #SOL26

It’s day 3 of our 31-day writing challenge! Write your slice of life story, share your link in the comments, and comment on at least three other Slicers’ stories. Let’s keep up the momentum!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Orange Slice Logo for Slice of Life Story Challenge
Write. Share. Give.
  • A warm welcome to all the new Slicers joining us this year! For the next few days, please add “I’m a first-year Slicer” to your comments. This helps our longtime members visit your blog.
  • We ask all participants to comment on at least three Slicers’ blog posts each day this month. Read to see what techniques each Slicer used in their piece. Feel free to comment on what you notice. Try a technique you saw another Slicer use in your writing today, tomorrow, or later this month.

BE INSPIRED

In “Hard Habit to Break,” Leigh Anne Eck brings an “evergreen” problem to life by inviting us into a private moment with her family. Rather than simply describing her habit of pluralizing brand names, she uses a short text exchange with her son to ground the story in reality. This clever use of dialogue serves as a mirror, challenging us to examine our own speech patterns and the small, stubborn habits that define our daily lives. As you read, consider how a simple interaction or a common linguistic quirk in your own life might serve as a gateway to a much deeper story.

SUPPORT

If you encounter any issues with non-working links, problems with your permalink, or a permalink causing an image to appear in the comment section, our Slicer Troubleshooting Team is here to help. The team comprises four experienced Slicers: Glenda FunkFran McCrackinJoanne Toft, and Peter von Euler. (Click here for a short tutorial to help you find your permalink and link your slice-of-life story to this post.)

For inquiries, please email us rather than leaving them in the comments below or on social media. We appreciate your patience as we receive a high volume of emails in the early days of the challenge. We will respond to all emails promptly.

Please direct specific questions to the appropriate co-author.

  • If your last name starts with A-G, email Jess Carey at jessica.carey224[at]gmail.com
  • If your last name starts with H-N, email Lainie Levin at lainlev72[at]gmail.com.
  • If your last name starts with O-T, email Melanie Meehan at meehanmelanie[at]gmail.com.
  • If your last name starts with U-Z, email Sarah Valter at sarahvalterreads[at]gmail.com.
  • If you need support with the Classroom Challenge, email Leah Thomas at leahthomaswrites[at]gmail.com.
Type a single space after the punctuation in your teaser, then add the link to your slice of life story. Avoid pressing enter, as it generates a large preview that clutters the comment section.

  1. New Slicer, Day three. I apologize for still not having my comments available. Technical difficulties! This one is about my sweet boy! teaching-to-transform.com/the-blog/my-sweet-son
