slice of life

SOL Tuesday

I’ve read more fiction than ever this year. While I’ve come across some excellent books, few offered inspiring quotes about writing. So I went back to my ‘inspirational quotes about writing from books’ collection and found one worth sharing. It comes from The Midcoast, an outstanding novel by Adam White, which I read three years ago. He offered this sage advice to readers:

If you write about what’s meaningful to you, even if you’re just some nobody from Maine who’s not doing all that much with his life, who’s watching other people do a whole lot more, then your readers might be able to connect with your story, even if they’re nothing like you.

This quote captures the heart of slice-of-life writing—a celebration of ordinary moments that connect us across distance and difference. Each Tuesday, we come together as unique individuals, sharing our experiences and forging connections week after week by sharing our stories. It’s powerful to inspire each other and build community through the simple act of storytelling.
