Paper Choices: From the Archives

The importance of paper choices has not wavered in the face of a growing world of digital tools. For our youngest writers, in particular, selecting the right paper can have a profound influence on the writing process. Creating spaces where paper choices are a natural part of a student’s writing workshop experience emphasizes ownership and creativity.

  1. I’m so glad you are revisiting this! The power of choice has been playing out in my class as we work on our autobiographies. I had lots of choices available and it was so fun to see the students make thoughtful choices about how much text they wanted on a page vs the amount of space they would devote to illustrations. They used Pic Collage to make covers and, again, they were so thoughtful about the choices they made. It was heart warming!
