I am currently an undergrad majoring in elementary education. This quote reminded me that we need to meet students where they are and advance them from that point, not expect them to meet us were we are. I can’t wait to start my career as an educator. Thank you for the continuing inspiration.

Conferring (as part of Writer’s Workshop) is really helping me connect with kids like never before. They love the opportunity to write about what they want, and I feel like I know them better for it!

Love that! It goes with what I was blogging about this morning, you need to know your students in a variety of ways, but first you must love and respect who they are right now! Thanks for the reminder.

(To Jean — I think I first ran across this quote in “A Writer Teaches Writing”… ???)

Aw-w, that’s great. I so often have told other younger teachers that the first thing you must do is love your students, then you can do anything. Parents must know that you do, too!
