“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.”
~ Ayn Rand

This really spoke to my heart and where I am today. It helped me to just continue to hold on and see this fight to the end. Thank you for the encouragement!

After chatting tonight, I decided to go back through my Google reader to catch up on postings…
I needed these words tonight. I needed to remind myself to fight.
The classroom that I desire can be won. It will be won…with lots of blood, sweat, and tears, but the joy that will come will be amazing!
Thanks for challenging us to fight for what we know is right. It kind of reminds me of the book by Peter H. Reynolds, The North Star.

But she was human, and recognizing value in each other whereever it might be is the essence of good teaching.

Umm…Ayn Rand espoused ideas which go directly against the core values of teachers everywhere – she believed that the sole purpose of human existence was to pursue self interest , i.e. egoism over altruism. Hate mongers like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck use her “philosophies” every day – they are the direct descendants of her idea of “perfect world order”. Having read her, those words do not speak to me at all.
