I had one of the most amazing early-in-the-school-year writing conferences today. The student literally pondered what she was working on as a writer. She didn’t tell me about her writing like most kids do during the first few weeks of school (before you stop them and say, “That’s not what I asked you. I asked what you’re working on as a writer“).
I hope that my Slice of Life Story carves out just enough of our conference for you to see how amazing this was. (It doesn’t include my compliment of the student, where we both agreed that answering about what one is writing at the time ‘just isn’t the question.’ That, too, was a cute moment!)

It’s great that you have this documented here, on your blog. I have been recommending our site to our teachers at the Hudson Valley Writing Project as a model for them to see what blogging as an educator is all about.
BTW, the TELL conference I presented blogging for also got a view of your blog.

I love when these perfect little moments just pop up. And I love that you were present enough to stop and ask the question, that you lingered over Natalie just a little longer. Nice slice!
