I walked into the paint store this morning to help a friend pick the perfect wall colors for her kitchen and family room. I walked out with lots and lots of paint chips… none of which were for her (she held hers). Why? Well, it’s simple. I decided that I wanted to do a Color Wheel Activity with my students this-coming fall and then have them create their own Color Palettes, which was a pre-field trip activity I did with my kids in 2006 before I took them to the Guggenheim Museum. Here are some of the photos I took while the kids were doing this activity a couple of years ago:
So here I am, a few hours later, and I’m up to my eyeballs in colors like “Whispering Woods,” “Cowboy Boots,” “Razzle Dazzle,” “Faded Denim,” “English Hyacinth,” “Baby’s Mittens,” “Nacho Cheese,” “Tricycle Red,” “Lucky Charm Green,” “Juneau Spring,” “Serenity,” and “Sweet Taffy.” And now, I have to determine my color palette, and create one for my students as an example and quite frankly, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO SORT THROUGH ALL OF THESE TO FIND A PALETTE I LOVE. (Good thing I’m not painting my walls!)

I have way too many paint samples. Picking colors for my house last year was a long and arduous process. 😉 What do you have your kids do for the color wheel activity?
