Discovery from a Weekend Writer’s Notebook Assessment

Reminder for a Student Writer

Originally uploaded by teachergal

I recently changed-up my Weekend Writer’s Notebook Assessments. One question I ask, now, is “How can I help you as a writer?” I noticed that one of my kids said, “You can remind me to bring home my writer’s notebook. I seem to be forgetting it lately and that’s why I haven’t been writing in it.”

The child who wrote this writes AMAZING poetry and hasn’t had trouble remembering to bring it home before. Therefore, I asked her what I could do to help and she told me she needed a reminder on her desk. Hence, in my usual fashion, I created something that will stand-out without embarrassing her (since it’s kind of cute, if I may say so myself!).

Sometimes kids go through blips when they need a little nudge from us. And sometimes, when we ask them how to nudge them, something as small as a note on one’s desk might be all of the help one needs. We shall see how this goes in the weeks to come…

P.S. Friday is her WN checking day.
