News & Announcements Charts

I’m a big proponent of Responsive Classroom, which places as much value on the social curriculum as the academic curriculum. (I attending a Responsive Classroom Institute during the Summer of 2006. It was excellent, informative, and exceedingly helpful to me as a teacher!)

Even if you’re teaching in a school that doesn’t do R.C., you can still try out Morning Meeting, of which there are four components: a greeting, share time, an activity, and a news & announcements chart. The charts are pretty simple to make. They set the tone for the academic day that lies ahead. Here are the ones I created for the week to come (to “inspire” you in case you haven’t done them before):

There’s quite a bit about writing in my charts this week since my students are publishing their letters on Friday. However, there’s no steadfast formula for how to put them together.

NOTE: The hyperlinks in this post will lead you to articles that will give you more information about R.C.
