Have you missed out on the amazing articles published over the last couple of weeks? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with this recap. We’ll also preview what’s happening with Two Writing Teachers over the winter holiday season.
In this post, Jenna Komarin engaged in the reflective practice of looking at student work. She shared samples of student work and spoke about what she gathers about them as learners. Jenna’s article is a thoughtful reminder of how powerful it is to spend time thinking about our students’ work.
Earlier this week, I posted about an alternative way teachers can think about the traditional holiday gifts we offer our students, focusing on the intangibles.
Shawnda Fukano wrote a helpful, perceptive piece about oracy, the specific subset of oral language that pertains to academic vocabulary and discourse. Using a building metaphor, Shawnda lays out the ways we see and use oracy skills in classrooms. She also details how oracy works to the benefit of multilingual learners.
In her post, Leah Thomas reviewed the Rebecca Gardyn Levington book Write Here, Write Now. After reading Leah’s review, you will want to get your hands on this warm, sincere, joyful pep talk to young writers.
Don’t forget…in the spirit of taking time to rest and rejuvenate, the co-authors at Two Writing Teachers will be taking a break this holiday season. While we’ll still continue the Tuesday Slice of Life posts, our regular posts will resume January 1, 2025. In the meantime, start thinking about the 18th annual Slice of Life Challenge, which begins March 1, 2025!
