Last month, Dana launched a new feature at Two Writing Teachers: a curated collection of writing Tweets. October was my month to set aside a few favorites to bring to you this end-of-the-month Halloween day.
*Kevin Hodgson never ceases to amaze me with his ability to weave digital tools into his sixth graders’ learning lives. Here’s a Tweet which leads us to his post about student initiated digital writing portfolios:
*Differentiation and choice are so important in writing workshop, so I loved this Tweet demonstrating how we can offer our students both:
*National Day on Writing falls in October, so many wonderful Tweets about the importance of writing were sent that day, here are two of my favorites – one with a fabulous radio program:
and this one, which is just inspirational:
*Few of us write as beautifully about the joys and challenges of classroom life as Julieanne Harmatz, and there are few champions of teachers as generous and encouraging as Mary Howard, this Tweet about the magic of an author visit combined both:

*These Tweets from the #ncte chat on October 18th., gave me much to ponder over; “persistence” is most definitely part and parcel of the habits that make writing workshop tick, and three wise educators shared their insights:

*The things our kids say! I loved this #whyiwrite shared by Michelle Haseltine:
*Did you miss the TCRWP Saturday Reunion? Never fear, Fran McVeigh was there and shared her reading/writing learning. What would we in the teaching community do without Fran?
*I’m a big fan of StoryCorps and often use ideas from their incredible website for my writing workshop classes, this Tweet has me planning for something new:
*I try to have lots of my students’ writing displayed in our classroom on our hallway bulletin board – it’s the hardest work we do, after all, but I loved the way this teacher displayed her kids’ writer’s notebooks:
*Back to Kevin for another great Tweet about Digital Writing Month resources!

*What’s not to love about this Tweet from Cathy Mere – celebrating her writers…Halloween style!
Finally, Christina Nosek Tweeted a brilliant post by Kate Roberts about keeping it simple and keeping it focused – a lesson I want to make sure I bring into my writing workshop everyday:
