Welcome to Day 9!
We at the TWT have really been enjoying the posts from the International School of Kuala Lumpur. Recently, author Jack Gantos visited the school, and, according to teacher Bron Narsiman: “he offered our students a myriad of suggestions and strategies that they could use when faced with writing.” What a fortuitous visit during Slice of Life Story Challenge month!
Following is a list of some of Jack Gantos’s tips, as reported by Ms. Narsiman.
- Writing is powerful, you have the power
- Carry a journal around with, fill it with drawings, notes, photos and post its.
- Practise good writing habits, keep to the mantra, 10 minutes, 10 minutes each day, and in no time at all you have the content
- After this you have a story, a great messy story
- Once you have the content, focus on structure
- Make a list of ideas
- Follow elements of a story.

Some late slicers today, but I’m so proud they stuck with it through the weekend.
