The Sixth Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge is more than halfway over. Those of you who are new to our community have probably felt welcomed by the men and women (aka: Slicers) who have been part of our writing community for the past five years.
Comments are like gifts. They’re precious. We’re excited to find one (or more) on our writing. They let us know we have an audience and fuel us to keep writing.
Many thanks to Stenhouse Publishers who is sponsoring the prize for today’s commenting challenge. The prize package, a set of five Stenhouse titles, includes:
“Can We Skip Lunch and Keep Writing?” Collaborating in Class and Online, Grades 3-6 by Julie D. Ramsay
Day by Day: Refining Writing Workshop Through 180 Days of Reflective Practice by Ruth Ayres and Stacey Shubitz
Real Revision: Author’s Strategies to Share with Student Writers by Kate Messner
Writing Stories: Ideas, Exercises, and Encouragement for Teachers and Writers of All Ages by Carolyn Coman
Writing to Explore: Discovering Adventure in the Research Paper, 3-8 by Peter Lourie and David Somoza
Giveaway Specifics (Please read carefully!):
-
If you’re a first-time slicer (i.e., you began slicing anytime from Jan. 2013 – Mar. 2013), then you may participate in our final commenting challenge.
-
Please keep track of the blogs you comment on all day today through tomorrow (11:59 p.m. EST on Sat., 3/23/13). Once you’re finished commenting, please come back to THIS post and leave your name and/or the username you’ve been using for the SOLSC, your blog URL, and the exact number of blogs you’ve commented over the course of 36 hours. (NOTE: If you visit a blog today and tomorrow, please count that blog only once in your tally.)
-
The person who comments on the most blogs will win a copy of this book. I am asking for everyone’s good faith participation when it comes to reporting the number of comments you have left on other slicers’ blogs.
-
* = If there are two or more people who left the same number of comments, then I will draw the winner’s name out of a hat.

I won’t win the challenge with my 30 comments, but I did read some interesting writing. And I was determined to get to 30!
