Our publisher, Stenhouse, is hosting a Summer Writing Blogstitute starting on Wednesday, July 6th. Ruth and I are two of the seven authors contributing essays about the teaching of writing for the Stenhouse Blogstitute. Ruth is writing about celebrating writers while I’m writing about student-initiated writing conferences. The other Stenhouse authors who are participating are:
- Kate Messner, the author of Real Revision, will share about teaching students how to critique writing.
- Julie D. Ramsay, author of “Can We Skip Lunch and Keep Writing?”, will write about providing students with an authentic reason to write
- Carolyn Coman, author of Writing Stories, will help you figure out how to make time for your own writing.
- Peter Lourie and David Somoza, the authors of Writing to Explore, will help us understand how an adventure essay can be an alternative to a research paper.

This is fabulous! I am home this summer helping my son recuperate from a serious illness (no TC Summer Institute, alas!) and am looking for ways to keep the learning curve going … this is definitely going on my calendar!
