Summer’s coming! I know it doesn’t feel like it if you’re battling the black ice on the roads this morning, like me, but it’s approaching! Therefore, I’m starting to think about what kind of professional development courses I’m going to enroll in this summer. Most likely I’ll head to the TCRWP’s Summer Institute on the Teaching of Writing since I’ve been going to T.C. for professional development each summer since 2005.
I’d like to compile a comprehensive list of summer writing programs for teachers. I’m aware of each state’s NWP Summer Institute, and of the All-Write Consortium‘s Summer Institute, but I know there’s a lot more out there. If you’ve attended any kind of professional development, in the summertime, about the teaching of writing, would you post a comment? I’d like to have a list up, with links to each program’s website, by the end of this month. THANKS!

Hi! In Central Pennsylvania, we have a K-12 professional development opportunity for teachers and writers called the PA Writing Institute. It mixes aspects of the NWP model with 3 graduate credits in English or Elementary Education through Millersville University. This will be our 6th year, and we are excited about our speakers and week together. We try to keep our eyes on the aspects of teaching writing that are “true” for all writers, and we try very hard to keep the inspiration/practice balance strong as well.
This year, our speakers will be Kelly Gallagher, Lori Jameson Rog, Shelley Harwayne and Sara Holbrook.

I have applied to go Ellin Oliver Keene’s “To Understand” workshop this summer. I saw her at the CCIRA in Denver a year ago and it was AWESOME!
