Instead of writing short stories, we’re having our students write picture books. (Did this last year… loved it and HIGHLY recommend it.)
In order to get the kids excited and immerse them, I’m asking them to bring in their favorite picture books this-coming Monday. I’m hoping they’ll be able to adopt some of these books as mentor texts in the weeks to come.
Do you have any suggestions for picture books that would make superior mentor texts for my students? (I’m thinking of Jamaica’s Find and A Chair for My Mother, just to name one of many that are on my mind.) If so, please leave a comment. (THANKS!)
