BE INSPIRED

I’ve found myself finding it challenging not to write about the current situation we are all facing in my own slices. Slice of life writing is about our everyday moments every day. With the current crisis on our minds, it finds its way into our everyday stories as well.
My inspiration for you on my final day of hosting the challenge this month is a poem from Naomi Shihab Nye about a time at Gate A-4. Although the story is about connection with others, something we cannot do physically right now, the story inspires me whenever I read it and always gives me hope for the future. Here is the link to the narrative poem, Gate A-4 by Naomi Shihab Nye. May it bring you hope and inspiration as we continue toward a goal of 31 days of writing together.

  1. I woke up this morning feeling slightly under the weather, so of course my mind went straight where I didn’t want it to go. I remembered a friend of mine saying someday my sons would appreciate having my collection of writings. That inspired me to write a poem for them. They don’t actually read my blog so they’ll probably never see it!

  2. It’s been TOO long since I participated in SOLSC. I’ve moved, changed jobs, left the classroom, and more. But in lieu of the other dramatic life changes as of late, I have also reconnected. With writing, and with students who began writing with me when I had them in class during middle school. They are now juniors and seniors. I reached out to them yesterday, and invited them to join me for the final 10 days of the challenge.

Here is my post for today, reflecting on what is both lost and gained during these times.
