Slice of Life Story Challenge

SOL Tuesday #sol19

Welcome to our weekly writing challenge! I’m delighted you’re here to link up your slice of life story!

Write. Share. Give.

The 12th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge and will 2.5 weeks! If you’re planning to participate, watch this space weekly this month for special announcements and links to relevant blog posts about the March challenge.

Announcements:

  • This year, we are asking participants to complete this form no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on Fri., 3/1/19 in order to be in the running for prizes. This form will close on the morning of March 2nd. In keeping with the spirit of a month-long challenge, it is important to participate fully all thirty-one days. Since this is different from past years, we want to explain why we are making this change. The form will go live this Friday morning, 2/15/19.
  • Many potential new Slicers dip their toe into the water on Tuesdays in February.
    • If you’re a first-time Slicer, please make note of that when you leave the permalink to your blog post.
    • If you’re a longtime Slicer, please make an effort to commenting on at least one new blogger’s post today. If you don’t see anyone new when you link up, then click on someone’s link who is new to you!
  • For any teachers who plan to participate in the individual challenge and the classroom challenge (with their students), be sure to check out Kathleen Neagle Sokolowski’s overview post about the Classroom Challenge. You’ll notice one MAJOR thing will be changing this year in an effort to make it a better experience for classroom teachers.

Finally, I read Becoming by Michelle Obama late last year. Here’s a quote on writing that I made note of since I wanted to share it with this writing community:

That summer, I started keeping a journal. I bought myself a clothbound black book with purple flowers on the cover and kept it next to my bed. I took it with me when I went on business trips for Sidley & Austin. I was not a daily writer, or even a weekly writer: I picked up a pen only when I had the time and energy to sort through my jumbled feelings. I’d write a few entries in a single week and then lay the journal down for a month or sometimes more. I was not, by nature, especially introspective. The whole exercise of recording one’s thoughts was new to me—a habit I’d picked up in part, I suppose, from Barack, who viewed writing as therapeutic and clarifying and had kept journals on and off over the years.

      1. That’s okay. I was just practicing to learn the steps, no need to publish it further. I just posted now and hopefully I have this down. I will post my first entry Thursday to get into the March flow.
        Thanks!
