Welcome to the fourteenth day of the 11th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
So many moments throughout our day can become a slice of life story. Were you inspired by a book you read? Did you witness a conversation? Are you playing around with a fictional story? Are you a list maker? Were you struck by a memory? Our slice of life community resonates on the beat of stories from our everyday, stories from our heart, and stories from afar. Often in our noticings, we might be inspired by a book we are reading, people in our lives, characters in our head, or to-dos that go on and on. All of these can trigger a story from our day and to truly get to know our community, readers seek this connection to the stories that come from these ideas. It is through story that we adhere to our value of the ordinary and the simple. We would ask that you, as our community, continue to adhere to these values as well. Developing a daily writing habit centered around everyday occurrences is what helps us as writers to grow and expand on this natural and organic experience. Instead of a book review, tell us what inspired you and what you connected to as a human, a reader, or writer. Working on a fictional piece? Tell us how the world around you is inspiring your characters and the struggle of developing this uniquely crafted work. Do memories abound in your mind? What took you to that moment? Below is an oldie but goodie graphic that further explains what a slice of life story entails. You can type and view the links within the last boxes to see different examples.
BE INSPIRED
Emily Landis blogs at #momlife and recently wrote a post titled, The House that Build Me. At the beginning of the challenge, a few of you reached out concerned that your posts might not be #SOL stories. I wanted to share Emily’s example today because it is a beautiful slice that demonstrates how a moment in our day can trigger a memory and voila, memory slice! Take a look at Emily’s blog.
