ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Please be sure to comment on our daily inspiration/questions. We are hoping this will foster a sense of community among the teachers who are participating! Have an idea for how to do this even better? Great! Leave your suggestion in the comments or contact us using the information below.
  2. If you haven’t already we encourage you to reach out to another teacher who is participating in the challenge and partner up. You may find it a bit easier to teach your students to comment on other students’ writing if you get familiar with one or two other classroom blogs and how they work.
  3. Only post the link to your students’ slices of life here. Do not post the link to your personal slice of life stories here. Go to the daily call for individual slice of life stories to post your personal slice. This is the link to Day 1 only. This link will change each day. You should visit the Two Writing Teachers blog daily for the newest link.

  2. I’ve been really impressed with how my slicers are finding the tiniest things to write about–a calendar, a dishwasher, a struggle with a seatbelt. They add new ideas to our list every day.

  3. We have conversations all the time about what would make a good slice. A student whose mother teaches at our school was having a conversation with her about how he was sleep walking. Sounds like a good topic for a slice. The true test, though, is the weekend. Will they write this weekend? Badges are helping to motivate them beyond expectations. They are also somewhat competitive with their classmates. Most of all, I think they are thinking about writing more and more every day.

    1. I am so happy to hear they are enjoying the challenge and most importantly THEY are writing! When I sliced with my students I held a Monday Weekend Warrior Celebration! On Monday we all took a minute to read the posts from the weekend and then I encouraged the class to comment on them during the day. This was a popular way to get kids writing on the weekend.

  5. I love that Kristi! A few who I didn’t anticipate would be excited do seem to be blogging more! It’s been so inconsistent for me at work- out of the classroom for PD sessions and I was at a conference yesterday. Hoping to build more consistency soon.
