On Wednesday my students, for two years, will be getting on their bus and riding home after our final day together. It will be bittersweet as I give them my last hug as their teacher. From there I will gather my bag, a few belongings and leave my classroom. I will pack it up another day because I will be Indiana bound.
I am very excited to go to the All Write!!! conference in Warsaw, Indiana for my third adventure in collaboration with colleagues and friends from near and far.
A few years ago, I read the book Talking, Drawing, Writing by Mary Ellen Giacobbe and Martha Horn. This book changed the way I do writing workshop with my youngest students. It shaped me as a writing teacher. You can imagine my excitement when I heard that Martha Horn would be presenting at this year’s conference. I have long awaited the chance to be in the same room with one of these ladies and in a few short days that dream will come true. Martha Horn doesn’t know me. but I am excited to hear her speak and have her sign my book. It will be a rock star moment.
I am also a fan of so many others who will be presenting at this year’s conference. Matt Glover, another pioneer of young writers and co-author of Already Ready (yeah, another rock star moment) will be there as well. Helen Frost, whom I admire as an author and incredible poet. Stephanie Harvey, a guru, well that just doesn’t even do justice to what she has done in the writing world. There are so many amazing presenters, authors and friends who will all be in one place. Will you be there? I hope so! I also hope you will stop and say hi so we can share in these rock star moments together. Let me know in the comments!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how this is the end of the road for you and your students. I cannot imagine how bittersweet this moment will be. Watching them move on to second grade, where they will flourish thanks to the foundation you gave them, will be wonderful. However, it will be sad to let them go since you’ve been with them since the beginning.

This will be my first visit to All Write and I am so excited! There are amazing presenters scheduled and I am really looking forward to it. I can’t wait for the dinner with Barry Lane on Thursday night. He is amazing! I hope to meet you there. Safe travels!

Our last day of school is Thursday, so sadly I won’t be at All Write this year. However, I will be on Twitter and reading blogs to follow the learning and fun! My rock star moments occurred when I met my fellow bloggers and spent the next two days learning side by side with them.
