The March Slice of Life Challenge

{Write. Share. Give.}

WRITE. Each day in March write a slice on your own blog.

SHARE. Link your post in the comments here.

GIVE. Comment on at least three other slices.

Welcome March! Welcome Slicers!

This is the place to share your link if you are participating in the traditional Slice of Life Challenge. This means you are not sharing student slices;  you are sharing your OWN writing. If you are a first time slicer, we’d love for you to let us know when you share your link.

The Nitty Gritty:

  1. Please (pleasepleasepleaseplease) use the SAME email/username information on all of your March entries. This is essential to make tracking your number of slices a little more manageable.
  2. If you haven’t filled out the information form, please do so SOON! It only takes a couple of minutes and it is very helpful to us.
  3. We’ll close comments for the previous day’s slice the next morning. As long as you get your slice linked on each daily slice post, you are in the running for prizes. Play fair and do not leave more than one link each day.
  4. Any questions, please contact:
    • Linda Baie — lindab414[at]gmail[dot]com (If you last name begins with A – G.)
    • LeAnn Carpenter — leannecarpenter[at]sbcglobal[dot]net (If your last name begins with H – M.)
    • Bonnie Kaplan — blkdrama[at]mac[dot]com (If your last name begins with N – S.)
    • Carol Wilcox  — carwilc[at]aol[dot]com (If your last name begins with T – Z.)

Just a heads-up: If this is the first time you are joining Slice of Life, and you’ve never commented before, we will have to moderate your comment. Stacey and I will be checking throughout the day in order to get your links up for the community as soon as possible. As long as you use the same username/email to log in, your comments will appear instantly in the future.

    1. Hi Michelle,

Since you’re using your blog as a place to post your personal slice of life stories, that’s why you should link your posts to Ruth’s individual posts. However, since you’re using the same blog post for your students’ slices daily (in the comments section), that’s why you should also link the same blog post to the classroom challenge. Ideally, you’d have your individual blog posts on a separately blog posts from your students’. However, since this is the way you set up the challenge for your students, I think it’s best for you to link each of your blog posts to both the daily call for classroom slices and the daily call for individual slices.

If you have more questions, please email me directly at stacey[at]staceyshubitz[dot]com.

      Thanks!

    1. Sorry, Mrs. V! I posted this correction on your entry instead of the one below you. As you can see, these “Reply” buttons with arrows pointing down are a bit confusing. The “Reply” below the entry is for the one above it – even though there are dotted lines which seem to delineate the comment and enclose a “Reply” button. I had to go up and down from the beginning to the end of this post to figure out which one to use! It’s the bottom one…go figure!

    1. Hi, This probably depends on the level of comment moderation that the blogger bloggers have. I have a blogger blog and have it open for people outside of Blogger. This did come up last year though, and maybe someone else might remember better in order to give further advice.

On my Blogger blog it has Comment as and then a drop down. Word Press is an option. Is that what it looked like on the blogs that you were trying?

  1. Stacey or Ruth or someone…. I have a group of myself plus 16 teachers from my school joining your challenge! Most of us are using WordPress. We’re finding that we can’t comment on the Blogspot blogs. It’s asking for our user names, but when we put them in, we get an error message. Any ideas??

    1. Hi, Jackie. Don’t give up! I’ll talk you through it tomorrow so you can see what I mean. Fortunately, people can still see what you have posted and make comments, so don’t worry about that!

    1. When you link to Slice of Life, click on your title for the day’s post, so you get to that post only. Then copy and paste the unique url to just the post for the day. This one should be linked like this:

      My Classroom

    1. Unfortunately, the link you posted here does not work. After you write your blog posts and publish them, click on your current post’s title and see the unique URL for it. That is the one you want to copy and paste into the comments for the Slice of Life link. You do not have comments turned on, so people cannot respond to your writing – and that’s a big part of the fun! Here is your link to the post you wrote today: http://lromainebrown.wordpress.com/type/aside/
Let me know if this is not clear by replying here or by emailing me at djtsmith at gmail dot com
      And welcome aboard!

    1. I loved the humorous voice in your post. You have a treasure in a colleague with such a great sense of humor. And your determination to keep laughing even in adversity is a great thing.

    1. Hi, Melanie! If you could just put in the unique URL for your slices, then readers would get to that one post. Your unique url for this post is:
      http://tworeflectiveteachers.blogspot.com/2013/03/slice-2013-1-of-31.html
After publishing your post, click on it’s title to go to that single post. Copy and paste the unique URL into the Slice comment area for each time you post. Let me know if you aren’t sure by emailing me at djtsmith at gmail dot com! Enjoy the March challenge!

    1. This is your unique URL for posting:
      http://krisbis-startingpoint.blogspot.com/2013/03/mind-explosions.html
I could get to your whole site by clicking on your blog name above, but we just need the individual page for the day. After you have posted and published, click on your title and go to the single post. Copy and paste the URL into the comments on this site for others to click on then. Thanks! If you need more help, reply here or email me at djtsmith at gmail dot com!
