Three Things

  1. Today is one of my first days of summer break. I woke up early, even before the alarm and wrote 1000 words. We read a collective total of 5 books. The kids and I: rode bikes for an hour; had a picnic lunch by the waterfall in the park; and played at the skate park. Then Stephanie and I went to the dentist and bought her new summer shoes. She is ecstatic with her pair of Skele-toes. Then I met my friend Becca, and we went out for dinner and some shopping. I’m ecstatic about finding 3 new skirts. Finally, finally I’m home and able to get my blog post up.
  2. These two quotes are driving my keynote… “Everything is held together with stories. That is all that is holding us together, stories and compassion” (Barry Lopez). And “Be joyful because it is humanly possible” (Wendall Berry).
  3.  I have fallen in love with a new app. Well, it’s not new-new, but new to me. Instagram. Do you know it? If not, check it out. I’m loving the way I can capture slices of life in image form. I imagine it will be a source of inspiration when I’m stuck for a story on Tuesdays.

Here are some of my Instagrams from the past couple of days…

Unhurried. Finding the magic in the middle of living. Capturing a life of ridiculous grace + raw stories.

  1. You are like me; you dive into the summer break with full force. Mine has been going for two weeks now, and I am finally slowing down. I even slept until 7 am this morning! The quote from Wendall Berry was what I needed to hear this morning to wake me up to trying the impossible. Happy Summer!

  2. Ruth, slow down and enjoy! Sounds like a fun-filled “one day” adventure. I absolutely love both quotes. “Be joyful because it is humanly possible” (Wendall Berry) is on my sticky note to remind me every day. I hope today and each day of your summer break will be as adventurous as the first,
