Big News!

Stacey and I are excited to share that we have signed a contract with Stenhouse Publishers to write our first book!

The working title of the book is Writing 180 and is inspired by you, the readers of Two Writing Teachers.  The main gist of the book is we have defined six essential areas of Writing Workshop (assessment, choice, conferring, mentor texts, minilessons, and routines/procedures — with celebration/sharing woven in throughout each of the main areas).  Then within each area there are three ten day cycles to inspire and support teachers as they work to lift the level of their Writing Workshops.  To gain a sense of what the book will be, check out this Big Picture Series we wrote in February as we prepared a proposal for peer review.

Last week at the All-Write Summer Institute, I presented on the main areas of our book.  Although the presentation is bare bones without the speaking part, it will still give you a sense of our book.

  4. Wonderful! I’m sure I’ll want to use it in my presentations at IRA conferences and when I do inservice training for teachers.

    I am in the process of finishing my second book, “If They Don’t Learn the Way You Teach, Teach the Way They Learn.” It has three chapters on writing:

    Get Ready, Set, Write (k-3 strategies)

    The Write Way (4-12 strategies)

    The Mouse Trap (strategies that eliminate “copy and paste” research.

  14. Congrats on signing the book contract! I can’t wait till it’s published – you both have such great ideas!
    I saw all the comments in the conferring section to request a copy of the conferring menu and I would love a copy emailed to me if it’s not too late. I am always looking for something new to help me strengthen my conferences with students. Thank you!

  15. I just thought about how it would eventually be fun to hear about your process of writing a proposal and getting a contract. It seems like a common topic of discussion with writing in general (I usually see it specifically with YA and middle grade authors), but I would love to hear what it is like for a professional book.
