Growing up Christmas Eve was always the most important holiday in my family and it was also the one holiday where everything was traditional from year to year. The family always gathered at Oma’s house. My family is German and Oma is the word for Grandma. Santa Claus always visited at 6:00p.m. Oma always ran the bells right at 6:00 p.m. to alert his arrival. The menu never changed either. The traditions still live even though Oma has been gone for 9 Christmases now. The family even waited several years before anything new was added to the schedule or the idea that the times or events could be changed. it never occured to us to even think about changing. With my son being five now, I hope that when he is my age he will appreciate tradtions and the memories that are to be made in the new family now.

Sad to hear of Mr Linky’s demise. Memoir Monday has provided a new spark to my Monday writing endeavors and for that I am most thankful.
This time the imminent arrival of the festive season served to remind me of a Christmas Eve many years ago…
