My room was essentially controlled chaos today since my students began publishing their picture books. Paper cuttings were everywhere by the end of the day, as were markers, pens, pencils, and a myriad of other art supplies. I’m still at work (5:55 p.m.) since it took me awhile to straighten-up for tomorrow since there’s two more days of this madness during Writing Workshop time (only). I placed various papers and specialty supplies on our classroom’s coffee table table since the kids have everything else they need at their desks.
I am hoping tomorrow will be a little less chaotic. But, if it’s not, that will be okay too… it takes a lot of work to make a good picture book!!!
I am a literacy consultant who has spent the past dozen years working with teachers to improve the teaching of writing in their classrooms. While I work with teachers and students in grades K-6, I'm a former fourth and fifth-grade teacher so I have a passion for working with upper elementary students.
